Celebrity sighting

So  Meldoy and I were hanging out at the cafe in the Disney Concert Hall (downtown Los Angeles) tonight around 8:15pm. We were the only ones in the cafe because most people who go to the Disney Concert Hall actually have tickets to the performance.  We were just putzing around, visiting the gift shop, marveling at the architecture and taking pics.  We decided to sit down, order some dessert and enjoy some of Emmanuel Ax's performance on the flat screens in the cafe...when all of  a sudden a woman walked by our table and entered the cafeteria to purchase some food.

She was an Asian woman who dressed very simply and carried a Penguin Classics book bag.  She purchased an orange and sat down a few tables away from us.  I look at Meldoy and tell her that this lady looks an awful lot like Midori - the world famous and ridiculously talented violinist.  Meldoy responds with: "No..it can't be.  What would she be doing here...peeling an orange?"  And I respond with: "I don't know. But she looks just like her!"

For the next 10 minutes, I continue to gawk and stare at this woman while she eats her orange and leafs through a magazine...and then later something that looks like a score book.  As she turned the pages to her magazine, we noticed that she was wearing a hand brace.  I'm more and more convinced that it really is her.

In my head, I begin to think of slick ways to introduce myself.  Two minutes later, Midori gets up and walks out the door.  Meldoy looks at me and tells me that I need to go talk to her now or else I may never have a chance.  I step forward...but then hesitate once I realize that I'm wearing jeans, a t-shirt and flip flops!  "What if she isn't Midori and I make a complete fool of myself?  Or worse, what if she IS Midori and I make a complete fool of myself?!"  She walked up the escalator without a ticket and the guards didn't stop her.  I already knew by the way that they were looking at me that I wouldn't get the same kind of treatment.  I walked away...saddened by the thought that I had wasted my chance.

As soon as we got back to the apt, I jumped on Google and discovered that Midori has just recently moved to Los Angeles.  Oh well...now I know to trust my instinct next time around.
